Network Modeling and Simulation is carried out
to study the behaviour and performance of
network protocols, network devices, network
links, network applications and various traffic
profiles in an environment that can produce
effects similar to the real world networks. It is an
excellent method to design and simulate
multiple network scenarios before even the first
Dollar has been spent on building the network.
Many network consultancy services employ this
methodology to provide projected behavioural
and performance results and also to
troubleshoot network performance issues by
conducting in-depth analysis of the running
network by pulling the statistics into the
network simulator and carrying out modeling
and simulations to evaluate multiple scenarios
for fine tuning and improving the performance.
The professional simulators also propose the
costs of the scenarios studied by the consultant
such that the optimal solution can be selected.

In academic research studies, Network
Modeling and Simulation is used to learn the
process of Network Design and to analyse the
performance and behaviours of network models
as if they are running in real world applications.
Network modeling and simulation is one of the
proven methods to conduct quantitative
research studies to analyse how the networks
and the protocols and applications running on
them behave in real world scenarios. A large
number of research studies have been
conducted employing network simulators and
the future prospects for conducting research in
new application areas are unlimited.

OPNET Modeler is one of the most popular
network modeling and simulation tool in the
academic world. Riverbed Inc. has provided the
tool free of cost to students for conducting
laboratory experiments on network scenarios.
The academic edition has the limit of 50 Million
events in the simulator which, however, is
sufficient for learning network behaviours and
performance in any form of scenario. The limit
of 50 Million events in the OPNET Modeler
academic edition, however, is largely
inadequate for professional network simulations
where thousands of nodes may have to be
configured on the modeler. In academic studies,
most of the research scenarios may not require
configuration beyond a few hundred nodes and
hence 50 Million events are sufficient to
generate the desired results.

The modeling and simulation efforts applied on
OPNET Modeler are stored in the default folder
called OP_MODELS under the user profile in
windows. If these files are transferred to any
other computer having OPNET Modeler
installed and copied in the same folder, the
recipient can open the model, view the statistics
generated by virtue of simulations run on the
source computer and generate the reports. This
process can be used effectively by students of
networking in sharing their efforts among each
other and also submit their work to their tutors
such that their models can be tested and
verified.

OPNET Modeler is very close to real world
networks. The Protocols, Network Devices,
Traffic Demands, Application Demands, Profiles
and Applications that are configured in OPNET
Modeler are suprisingly identical to the real
world applications. In fact OPNET Modeler
comprises of object libraries that possess
thousands of models used in real world
applications - like network devices from Cisco,
3COM, Nortel, HP, etc., application servers from
SUN, HP, IBM, etc., all types network links (you
name a link type and you will find it in library of
Links), all types of network protocols, and a
number of voice, data and video applications.
You will be surprised to know that you can even
configure voice and video codecs for IP
Multimedia applications in OPNET Modeler
and configure Quality of Service with variety of
options. You have to be very careful about one
aspect however!! OPNET Modeler requires
"very accurate" configurations in the network
modeling carried out for the scenario. Even a
single mistake can fail the simulation and the
simulation error logs are not always clear
enough to be followed to correct the problem.
Hence, your theoretical and practical knowledge
about networking should be excellent to
configure network models in OPNET Modeler.

We have helped networking students
academically in numerous academic
dissertations and theses that required
application of OPNET Modeler. Our experts
have worked as specialist network managers
and administrators and have been successful in
helping students to configure and simulate
accurate models in OPNET Modeler on their
respective computers. You will need to
download OPNET Modeler (latest version) from
the website of Riverbed Inc. from their page for
university academic programs (please Google
this phrase). You may follow the instructions
and install the software on your computer. Once
you are ready with your configuration, we shall
help you to create the models that you want
such that you can learn them hands on. Once
you are successful in configuring the model and
running the simulation on your computer, we
shall help you to learn from the reports
generated and create the analysis document
based on the reports generated on your
computer.

In addition to students of networking, we have
also helped a number of strudents in developing
simulation scenarios in testing the activities,
performance, and behaviours of application
algorithms, workflows, and interactions flow
conceptualised in a specific field of study: such
as, Advanced Security Protocols and
Applications, Industrial Internet of Things, Big
Data Analytics, Blockchain, and Software
Applications in Logistics and Supply Chain
Management, Cloud Manufacturing, and
Industry 4.0. Studies of activities, performance,
and behaviours of applications were conducted
using the "Application Characterisation Engine
(ACE)" tool of OPNET Modeler. ACE generates
amazing statistics reflecting the activities,
performance, and behaviours of each phase of
an application algorithm, interactions flow, and
workflow showing detailed activities and
behavioural reports of each of the networked
node participating in them. For example, the
TCP connection reports provide details of each
"Congestion Window" that the participating
node has experienced in executing the ACE
interaction in its scope. Working with ACE is
perhaps the most difficult part of OPNET, but all
our students were highly successful with our
assistance and could achieve exemplary
appreciations for their research outcomes.

Our primary objective is to help you
academically in creating the network model and
simulating the same on your computer and
analysing the reports generated by the model on
your computer such that you can meet your
research aims and objectives. We do not operate
as a consultant or support firm for OPNET
Modeler software. Our job is of an academic
tutor for students who want to learn the
fundamentals of network design and operations.
In addition to OPNET Modeler, we also use
OMNET++ to help you in learning network
modeling and simulation and collecting the
reports.

Disclaimer: Please note that OPNET Modeler
Academic Edition and OMNET++ are the
software meant for non-commercial purposes
and hence we do not offer any form of
commercial service (including paid consultancy
services or paid services for funded research
projects) using these software. We only help
students academically in their dissertation and
thesis projects pertaining to network education
if they are facing problems with modeling and
simulation using OPNET Modeler, OMNET++
or any other academic tool for network
modeling on their respective computers.
